Maintenance Technician (Farm)

Bracher Farms believes in using sustainable agricultural techniques and modern farming practices to provide opportunities for future generations. As a small farm, we embrace a close-knit culture where every employee feels supported and valued. Our goal is to deliver a high-level agricultural experience, blending hands-on learning with innovative methods to ensure both excellence and sustainability. We focus on creating meaningful opportunities for growth, encouraging collaboration, and sharing knowledge that strengthens our team and community. Bracher Farms is more than a workplace; it’s a commitment to responsible farming, education, and building a future where agriculture thrives for generations to come.

Your Daily Impact on Farm Operations

A day in the life of a Farm Mechanic at Bracher Farms is never the same. One moment you might be performing routine maintenance like an oil change or tire rotation, and the next you’re diagnosing an electrical short on a semi or overhauling a combine to keep harvest on track. You’ll stock and prepare the service truck for on-the-go repairs, troubleshoot issues in the shop and out in the field, and apply your mechanical expertise to minimize downtime. This role calls for versatility, problem-solving, and a commitment to keeping our operation safe, efficient, and productive.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough inspections and preventive maintenance on farm equipment, including fluids, lubricants, safety components, batteries, brakes, steering systems, generators, starters, and pumps.
  • Respond to service calls outside normal working hours for tractors, combines, trucks, and other farm machinery as needed.
  • Conduct fleet inspections and maintain fleet equipment to ensure reliability and safety.
  • Complete welding and light fabrication projects for repairs and equipment modifications.
  • Accurately document all repairs and maintenance performed, including parts used and time spent.
  • Use hand tools and power tools effectively to perform repairs and routine maintenance.
  • Collaborate with team members to keep all equipment operating at peak performance.
  • Follow and enforce company safety policies at all times.
  • Perform equipment diagnostics using tools and techniques to identify mechanical issues quickly and accurately.
  • Track and maintain parts inventory to ensure timely repairs and service.
  • Suggest improvements for maintenance processes and equipment reliability.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 3+ plus years of experience as an agricultural or heavy-duty mechanic, heavy equipment technician, or a strong background in diesel/automotive repair.
  • Be able to read schematics, operate diagnostic tools, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Welding experience is preferred, including MIG and Stick welding as well as cutting and torch work.
  • John Deere equipment knowledge preferred.
  • Basic 12v wiring knowledge is preferred.
  • Tire maintenance experience is preferred, especially with heavy-duty and agricultural tires.
  • Hold a valid driver’s license; a CDL is a plus but not required.

Physical Requirements

  • Stand, walk, and remain alert for extended periods while working around equipment.
  • Lift and move heavy objects (up to 100 lbs. occasionally) and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and kneeling.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions—including heat, cold, wind, and dust—around vehicles, and heavy equipment.
  • Operate and climb onto large machinery, work in confined spaces, and use PPE such as gloves, goggles, and hearing protection.
