Job Summary:
The incumbent is responsible for planning, development, administration, management, and general maintenance of City owned recreation facilities, including the Canada Games Centre, Takhini Arena and Mt. McIntyre Recreation Centre. Provides leadership on sport, recreation, and community wellness related initiatives and events, and maintains positive relationships with the community, key stakeholders and internal departments. Oversees the provision of recreation programming, events, and ensures quality service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages the operations of the Recreation Department by providing leadership and direction to the supervisory team to ensure effective and efficient facility management and service delivery. Recruits, directs, coaches and appraises direct reporting staff and, through delegation, all departmental staff
Evaluates community needs and directs the development and implementation of recreation programs and services.
Oversees departmental communication strategies related to programs, events, and service changes.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with a variety of City departments, and external contacts, including Federal, Territorial and First Nations government partners, outside agencies and the public.
Prepares and controls the Recreation Department's annual operating and capital budgets.
Prepares and evaluates tenders, quotations, proposal calls and reports and awards or recommends awards in accordance with the City's Purchasing Policy
Provides support to the City's Emergency Operations Centre during emergencies, as required.
Ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that safety procedures and standards are followed by personnel throughout the department.
Acts as Director, Community Services, as assigned.

Job Requirements:
Working Conditions:
- Majority of work is performed under normal office conditions. Some offsite visits, evening, and weekend work may be required.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Degree in Recreation Management, Leisure Studies, Facility Management, or related field of study
- Previous experience - 8 years related experience including 4 years in a management/supervisory role
- On-the-job experience - 1 year
- Proven leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to delegate, set expectations, coach, motivate, and manage performance
- Proven organizational skills, prioritizing and ability to multitask with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated written and oral communications skills to develop and present reports and presentations
- Demonstrated ability to draft and interpret policies, procedures, and agreements.
- Knowledge of arena and pool operations considered an asset
- Standard First Aid and CPR, Level C
- Class 5 Drivers' License
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Examples of Equipment to Operate:
- General office equipment with the ability to operate software programs related to ERP, spreadsheets, word processing, PowerPoint, electronic mail, and Recreation Management, etc.
