Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, Public Fixed Income – SLC Management
What’s in it for you:
The Managing Director, UK Portfolios is a key member of the UK & Canadian investment team. This position will be largely focused on the investment activities related to our UK clients.
The role involves; managing investment portfolios, trading fixed income securities, funding and hedging non-public asset classes, interacting regularly with Portfolio Management and ALM teams across Sun Life, and provide value added investment solutions to various business units across Sun Life enterprise.
What you will do:
- Assist in the management of liability-driven investment portfolios including both portfolio management duties and trading for portfolios covering fixed income, derivatives and other related securities.
- Trade corporate, supra-sovereign, government and inflation linked bonds to provide risk adjusted returns to the client(s). Review and assess relative value opportunities for sector and individual security positions.
- Oversee interest rate positioning across all asset portfolios. Manage key rate duration (KRD) within strict limits and where appropriate utilize derivative and other strategies.
- Assist in the funding and hedging of all non-marketable asset placements. Ensure the portfolios meet liquidity tests and minimum cash requirements.
- Assess relative value of investing in foreign corporate bonds within appropriate risk frameworks.
- Regularly reviewing portfolios to ensure compliance with investment policy guidelines, analyzing performance, and attend meeting with client(s)
- Communicate effectively across the organization to develop and maintain close relationships with other portfolio managers, traders, research analysts, relationship managers, and finance to respond to client requests.
- Collaborate with the credit research team to ensure that their insights are effectively incorporated into our investment strategies and work to improve the efficiency of this process.
- Utilize organizational skills to prioritize high value tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a detailed focus on the quality of the deliverables.
What you will need to succeed:
- Masters or undergraduate degree in finance, economics or a related discipline.
- CFA designation.
- On-going commitment to the investments industry evidenced by memberships, affiliations and participation in relevant industry groups.
- Previous fixed income portfolio management experience preferably in the European or North American fixed income markets.
- Proficiency in Bloomberg, Blackrock Aladdin, electronic trading and/or other fixed income technologies would be preferred.
- Practical knowledge of the asset classes in which SLC invests (publics, privates, derivatives, mortgages, structured products) and hedging strategies for risks, such as interest rate and foreign exchange risk.
- Ability to work independently in an agile work environment to achieve targets and meet deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail and understanding of the need for accuracy.

Salary Range
142,000/142 000 - 250,000/250 000The Base Pay range is for the primary location of the job. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
