Hourly Rate: $21.00
Duration: September 3, 2024 - December 1, 2024
Workdays/Hours: This internship is primarily in-person with some flexibility for telework.
Hours flexible with availability requirement of 8am-5pm EST. Monday - Friday.
Intern will work approximately 20 hours per week.
College credit is also available.

City of Durham Mayoral Internship
Mayor Leonardo Williams is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and civic-minded intern to assist with a fast-paced multifaceted operation based in his City Hall Office for the Fall 2024 term with an anticipated start date of September 3, 2024 and ending December 1, 2024. The intern will assist the Office of the Mayor with a range of projects including preparing press clips, drafting correspondence, conducting policy research, and other assignments as needed. Qualified candidates should have strong writing, research, and social media skills. Candidates with experience or salient interest in local government are preferred but not required. Knowledge of the Durham community is a plus. The intern will be supervised by the Special Assistant to the Mayor.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Preparing Press Clips.
• Compiling regular communications reports on press and social media result.
• Assisting with administrative tasks (e.g. answering telephone, greeting visitors, etc.)
• Assisting with policy tasks (e.g. drafting memos, policy research, etc.)
• Assisting the Mayor at events and public appearances.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

• Must be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program. Candidates studying Business, Political Science, Public Administration, or Public Policy, are preferred.
• Preferred candidate will possess strong written and verbal skills.
