Part Time Ice Cream Maker & Production Member

Job Summary

We’re looking for a part-time kitchen production team member to make ice cream, cookies and cakes in the evenings and on weekends. Our production crew consists of our lead Ice Cream maker who manages the production schedule and two part-time kitchen team members. We are looking for someone with food production experience (baking, cooking, etc.) in a commercial kitchen.

Your day to day activities will include some of the following: prepping ingredients, mixing ice cream, mixing batches of cookies, decorating cakes, packaging items you create, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and the kitchen space. This is a very physical job- it requires standing and moving during your entire shift, lifting 50 lb boxes throughout the shift and lifting 20 pound tubs of ice cream repetitively as you move ice cream between freezers.

If you’re a highly productive person with commercial kitchen experience or education who excels at time management and multitasking this may be a great job for you. Ice cream is a highly seasonal business so you must be comfortable with hours that fluctuate lower in the winter and higher in the summer. We would like a minimum of 2 year commitment and you must be available year round.

Skills

• Can prepare and mix ingredients according to established recipes and quality standards
• Ability to measure ingredients accurately and perform measurement conversions
• Operate ice cream production equipment safely and efficiently, including batch freezers and mixers.
• Understand the importance of cleanliness, sanitary practices and food safety
• Work well independently but are not afraid to ask for clarification or help
• Attention to detail & observant- you must notice details about the products you are producing to ensure quality standards are being met. For instance, ice cream consistency and texture, cookie dough consistency, etc.
• A happy and humble attitude- work well with others and excited to be part of a team
• Time management- you’ll work independently and must manage your time well
• Take pride in your work and have high standards- you’ll be making the product we sell to our customers, that we put the Humble Cow name on so it’s important that you take it seriously

Experience & Job Requirements

• Ability to stand for up to 6 hours and lift up to 50 pounds- this is a very physical job and you must be able to keep up with the demands safely
• Food production experience in a commercial kitchen or culinary education required
• Experience decorating cakes or making cookies commercially a plus
• Ice cream making experience not required- we’ll teach you how to use the equipment and how to make the ice cream
• Willing and able to comply with our personnel food safety guidelines, including hair, nails and footwear.

Duties will include

• Making batches of ice cream following a recipe precisely
• Rotating buckets of ice cream between freezers
• Prepping ice cream ingredients- chopping, mixing, freezing, etc.
• Cleaning and sanitizing the ice cream maker between batches
• Washing dishes used to make batches of ice cream
• Sanitizing ice cream buckets
• Making cookie dough following a recipe
• Making cakes following a recipe
• Cleaning the kitchen facility- sweeping, mopping, cleaning tables
• Communication with the owner about ice cream and supply inventory
• Sanitizing the work area at the end of your shift to ensure food safety
• Ability to work part-time hours with flexibility around peak production times- for ice cream that means more hours in the summer
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and perform repetitive tasks safely

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
