Part-Time Piano Teacher (Sight-Reading & Classical Improvisation Focus — Not Memorisation)

Hogan Music Academy (HMA) is a growing music school in Singapore dedicated to helping students become confident, musically fluent pianists.

We are seeking part-time piano teachers to teach in students’ homes using our carefully structured curriculum.

Please note:
HMA does not prepare students for external graded exams or piano competitions.
Our programme is intentionally designed around long-term musical fluency, not exam syllabi or "competition" performance outcomes.

This role is best suited for teachers who value deep skill development, enjoy working within a clear method, and appreciate a calm, well-organised teaching environment.

Teaching Schedule

• Monday to Friday: After-school hours, typically 3:00pm – 8:00pm
• Around 5–6 lessons per weekday
• Saturday: 9:00am – 6:00pm (lunch break included)
• Typically about 8 students
• Sunday: Always off

Lessons take place in students’ homes, and locations may vary across Singapore.

Our Teaching Approach

At HMA, we follow a structured, literacy-based approach to piano teaching.

Teachers are expected to follow the HMA curriculum and lesson structure strictly.

Rather than preparing students for exams or competitions, lessons focus on:

• Fluent sight-reading
• Harmonic understanding through partimento-influenced work
• Accompaniment/Improvisation as a core musical skill
• Pattern recognition, keyboard fluency, and stylistic awareness

Student progress is assessed internally through our own grading framework (which will be implemented in the future).

Tempo & Metronome Practice

HMA follows historical tempo conventions in teaching.

• The metronome is interpreted in whole beats
• In common time, this corresponds to 8 audible metronome ticks per bar, rather than 4

Teachers will receive guidance and support in working within this framework.

Administrative Support

At HMA, teachers are fully supported by our administrative team.

• Billing, scheduling, and make-up coordination are handled for you
• Teachers simply follow the assigned teaching calendar
• You are not expected to manage payments, negotiate schedules, or handle administrative discussions with families

Our aim is to allow teachers to focus on teaching with clarity and without unnecessary stress, reducing burnout.

Employment & Compensation

• Employee position (CPF contributions provided where applicable)
• Paid per lesson delivered
• Transport costs are not included in compensation
• Performance bonuses may be offered based on factors such as:
• student retention
• reliability
• consistency in applying the HMA method

Monthly earnings vary depending on teaching load and student retention.

Training & Ongoing Support

All teachers receive training in the HMA curriculum and teaching approach.

Check-in structure:

• Weekly one-on-one check-ins during the first 2 months
• Monthly check-ins for the following 10 months
• Every 6 months thereafter

These check-ins are designed to provide guidance, alignment, and professional support.
