The Position
The Contra Costa Health Services Behavioral Health Division, in partnership with consumers, families, staff and community-based agencies, provides welcoming and integrated services for mental health, substance abuse, and other needs that promote wellness, recovery, and resiliency while respecting the complexity and diversity of the people we serve.
The Behavioral Health Division is seeking to fill one vacant Patient Financial Services Supervisor to support the patient financial services team in assisting clients with Medi-Cal, Social Security benefits, immigration issues, and money management.

What you will typically be responsible for:
- Resolving complex money management issues
- Completing various reports for SSDI/SSI clients to ensure they maintain their benefits
- Reviewing referrals for disability, identify if a client meets the qualifications for SSDI/SSI, assign to staff
- Reviewing the daily outside hospital report, determine if a Medi-Cal inter-county transfer is needed
- Providing support to the department staff, clinics/programs and conservatorship office regarding various issues
- Filing Social Security and Medi-Cal claims, follow up to ensure any further documents/forms needed are provided
- Reviewing staff productivity, provide ongoing training and support
- Attending SSA hearings
- Plans, delegates and reviews work of financial counseling staff
- Hires, trains and evaluates performance of subordinate staff
- Ensures procedures are followed accurately
- Takes disciplinary action when necessary

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Candidates must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator/s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent or high school proficiency certificate.
Experience: Eighteen months (18) of full-time experience, or its equivalent, as a supervisor in a health care service agency or in a health care insurance program; or 2) Three years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience in public contact in a health service agency which involved processing financial or personal history documents and interpreting applicable laws, rules, or regulations.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Medi-Cal, Social Security and Medicare knowledge; having filed claims, understanding the different programs
- Prior experience working with Behavioral Health and clients experiencing homelessness
- Prior experience in a lead or supervisory role
- Flexibility with schedule (to accommodate clients and the community)
- Computer savvy; ability to work in the EHR and with other programs
- Ability to work independently and as a team member
Selection Process

2. Training & Experience Evaluation: Candidates who clearly demonstrate that they possess the minimum qualifications will have their training and experience evaluated. The responses to the supplemental questions, at the time of filing, will be evaluated to determine each candidate's relevant education, training, and/or experience as presented on the application and supplemental questionnaire. (Weighted 100%)
