MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The equivalent of two years of experience in mechanical or building trades maintenance work, which has provided the required knowledge and skills.
License: Possession of a valid California Driver’s license.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Knowledge of:
- Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in basic mechanical maintenance, plumbing, painting, carpentry and related building trades work.
- Basic shop math.
- Safe work methods and safety precautions related to the work.
Ability to:
- Perform basic mechanical maintenance, plumbing, painting, carpentry and related building trades work.
- Follow written and oral directions.
- Complete work assignments independently.
- Use safety equipment and observe safe work methods.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in the work.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
Other Requirements:
- Must be willing to work in exposure to potentially hazardous materials, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather conditions. Must possess strength sufficient to perform heavy manual labor.
EXAMINATION COMPONENTS
THE EXAMINATION WILL CONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
- A review of applicants' application to verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
- A review of the supplemental questionnaire to determine the best qualified. Those candidates considered the best qualified will move on to the final step in the examination process. This is a pass/fail exam component.
Candidates must attain a qualifying rating on each portion of this recruitment.

RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION PLAN
- The combined oral examination/hiring interview, in addition to establishing an eligibility list, may serve as the final selection interview for vacancies in this classification.
