Key Responsibilities
The Porter position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, sanitation, and overall appearance of shared and outdoor spaces in a multifamily residential property. This role ensures that common areas, such as lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, and amenity spaces, are clean, safe, and welcoming for residents and visitors. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and takes pride in creating a pleasant living environment.
- Trash Management: Empty trash bins, replace liners, and ensure proper disposal of waste in designated areas.
- Daily Cleaning: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust common areas, including lobbies, hallways, staircases, elevators, and community rooms.
- Sanitation: Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, railings, elevator buttons, and light switches to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Restroom Maintenance: Clean and restock restrooms in common areas, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and floors, ensuring supplies like soap, paper towels, and toilet paper are replenished.
- Amenity Spaces: Maintain cleanliness of shared amenities such as fitness centers, lounges, laundry rooms, and outdoor areas like courtyards or pool areas.
- Spill and Stain Response: Promptly address spills, stains, or messes to prevent damage to flooring, walls, or furniture.
- Window and Glass Cleaning: Clean windows, glass doors, and mirrors to ensure a streak-free, polished appearance.
- Reporting Issues: Report maintenance issues, damages, or safety hazards to the property manager or maintenance team.
- Inventory Management: Monitor and report the need for cleaning supplies and equipment to ensure consistent availability.
- Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, including proper use of cleaning chemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and property-specific guidelines.
Qualifications
- Experience: Prior porter or janitorial experience preferred, particularly in multifamily residential or commercial settings.
- Skills:
- Attention to detail and commitment to high cleanliness standards.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning products and equipment.
- Strong communication skills for reporting issues and interacting with residents or staff.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs. for extended periods. Comfortable using ladders or step stools as needed.
- Availability: Flexibility to work as required by property needs.
- Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and able to follow a consistent cleaning schedule.
Working Conditions
- Work both indoors and outdoors (e.g., cleaning courtyards or entryways).
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, requiring adherence to safety protocols.
- Interaction with residents and visitors, requiring professionalism and courtesy.
Pay
$15-16 per hour, depending on experience.
