The Opportunity:

4 month position starting Fall 2024

There is potential to extend the term at a later date.

The ideal candidate will:

• Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and is a team player
• Work with both internal and external partners to achieve key product performance criteria
• Hold themselves to the highest level of personal and professional standards of conduct

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of candidate will include:

• Participate in development of optical processes for manufacturing high performance optical systems.
• Support continuous improvement of test hardware and automation software in collaboration with NPI team and lab technicians.
• Support instrumentation and process automation activities
• Contribute towards day-to-day lab activities related to optical manufacturing and process development
• Work on fault isolation and troubleshooting tools
• Support failure analysis, root cause identification and corrective action implementation

Required skills

• Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams
• Technical understanding of optical networking systems and components
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Strong communications skills, with ability to clearly articulate technical issues
• Clear sense of accountability

Required Experience

• Working towards BS or MS degree in Optical/Electronics/Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent technical degree
• Basic electronics / PCBA experience
• Experience with optical and electrical test instruments

Assets

• Prior experience with optical systems, optical fibers devices
• Software experience with Matlab/Python/C/C++/C#
• Prior experience of working with discrete coherent transmitter, receiver, pluggable module etc.
• RF expertise

Compensation and Benefits (Students)

The pay range for this position is $24.50-$33.00/hour

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
