We are currently looking for a Production Support Officer to join the team at our New Zealand Aluminium Smelter (NZAS). As a production Support Officer, you will play a pivotal role in the smooth functioning of our processing operations. Your primary responsibility is to execute assignments focused on process control, optimization, and troubleshooting.
You will be the key contact between Maintenance, Planning and the Operational teams. Process quality control is an important part of this position including the physical sampling of Anodes. Working under the guidance of senior technicians or engineers, you'll tackle both complex projects and smaller tasks independently, ensuring that our processing operations meet the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and quality.
Reporting to the Superintendent, Carbon Bake and working within a diverse team you will be:
Apply practical and non-theoretical knowledge of products, techniques and processes gained by on-the-job experience and technical qualification.
Collaborate closely with Engineering, Assets and Maintenance team to implement improvements in cycle-time, yield, unit cost, quality, safety, and compliance within production and operations processes. Your technical expertise will be crucial in identifying areas for enhancement and implementing effective solutions.
Take the lead of monitoring equipment, meticulously collecting operating data for calibration, inspection, and testing purposes.
Proactively identify and resolve malfunctions and deviations in the Process. Conduct in-depth analyses, utilizing data, trending, reporting, and leading root cause analyses to address issues promptly and effectively.
Maintain process procedures to maximize efficiency and resource utilization while adhering to standard operating procedures and industry best practices.
Guides and supports less experienced team members and may assist in their formal orientation and training.
What you’ll bring
Good communication skills to collaborate across functions
Trouble shooting and problem-solving abilities
Computer skills or experience with PIMs/Pi
Knowledge of baking process and HFO system desirable
Similar experience in a comparable role desirable

Based at Tiwai Point in New Zealand’s south, NZAS makes aluminium with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the world, and it is the only aluminium smelter to produce ultra-high purity metal using renewable hydroelectricity. Receiving the majority of its alumina from our Yarwun and Queensland Alumina Limited refineries in Gladstone, Australia, the smelter produces more than 335,000 tonnes of aluminium each year.
