Summary:

Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. (HPES) provides service and maintenance operations to Particle Therapy systems. Accsys Technologies, a division of HPES designs and manufactures ion RF LINAC systems (radio frequency linear accelerator), which are used in Particle Beam Therapy systems and R&D applications. Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. is a Hitachi Group Company.

Position Summary:

The quality engineering supervisor is responsible for the development and implementation of the quality management system and overseeing the daily operations of the quality team. It is the quality engineering supervisor’s responsibility to drive projects that will improve HPES’s products, processes, and services. The quality engineering supervisor reports to the quality manager, works closely with the management team, leads cross-functional teams, and works with customers, vendors, and partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a mentor and leader for the quality technicians and quality engineer

  • Improve and develop the HPES quality management system to address big-picture quality concerns

  • Maintain ISO 9001 certification by coordinating yearly audits, updating ISO documents, and training employees to become internal auditors

  • Drive continuous improvement projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of processes and systems

  • Work closely with other departments, managers, site maintenance teams, customers, partners, and vendors to resolve quality concerns

  • Regularly communicate over email and video calls with international partners in Europe and Asia

  • Travel domestically to customer sites across the United States. Typical trips last a few days and occur 3-6 times per year.

  • Prioritize work for the quality team to ensure that the workload is evenly balanced, there are no bottlenecks or backlogs, and expectations are aligned between the quality department and other departments

  • Utilize methodologies such as FMEA, fishbone diagrams, Lean Six Sigma, and root cause analysis to solve complex quality and engineering problems

  • Lead necessary meetings (Internal and with customers/partners) such as material review board meetings, open issue review meetings, quality team meetings, and meetings to address quality concerns at customer sites

  • Drive cross-functional teams to address quality issues and create reports and other technical documents such as factory acceptance test reports, service notices, manufacturing work instructions, and corrective action reports

  • Oversee the daily operations of the quality department such as Incoming Quality Control (IQC), Final Quality Control (FQC), Certificate of Conformance (COC), Return to Vendor (RTV), Nonconforming Material Reports (NCMR), Return Material Authorization (RMA), and Corrective Action Reports (CAR)

  • Create work instructions for the quality technicians to utilize when performing regular quality inspections such as COC, FQC, and IQC

  • Make decisions for material dispositions and consult with the engineering team, procurement, and subject matter experts when necessary

  • Oversee the equipment calibration process, ensure all calibrations are up to date, and make determinations when new inspection tools need to be purchased to replace lost or damaged tools

  • Develop and maintain Jira Kanban boards and assist other departments with the development and implementation of Jira Kanban boards for their teams

  • Review the quality and cost-effectiveness of vendors utilized by the quality department

  • Implement new technology, software, and methods to digitize data collection and analysis to facilitate the improvement of HPES products and services through data-driven analytics

  • Track the occurrence of quality incidents such as incorrect or damaged shipments, downtime at customer sites, and other problems reported by our customers

Qualifications:

  • BS in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering field

  • 5-10 years of experience in manufacturing and quality

  • Excellent leadership abilities and a proven track record of successfully leading teams of 3+ employees

  • Strong understanding of ISO 9001

  • Ability to focus, prioritize, and multi-task successfully to drive projects to closure

  • Complex English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills

  • Strong critical thinking skills, analytical abilities, and attention to detail

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to effectively host meetings

  • Thorough understanding of industrial engineering and quality principles such as Lean Six Sigma, root cause analysis, statistical analysis, value stream mapping, continuous improvement, and Kanban

  • Advanced skills using computer software such as Microsoft Office, SAP, Jira, and SolidWorks

  • Understanding of how to read and interpret technical documentation

  • Willingness to learn complex electrical and mechanical systems as they pertain to the proton linear particle accelerator (LINAC)

For California only (as required by California’s Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162): The expected salary for this position in our California office is $90,000 – 100,000. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
