The Opportunity
Applications are invited for a Research Associate position to support the Dalhousie University Department of Critical Care research program, affiliated with both IWK Health and Nova Scotia Health. The Research Associate will assume a leadership function in supporting all aspects of the Critical Care Research Program and will be intrinsically involved in research projects where they contribute, by way of their extensive knowledge, to the projects directed by a Principal Investigator and strategy and growth of the department’s overall academic research mandate.
The successful candidate will be expected to identify and pursue relevant funding opportunities for critical care researchers, serve as a resource for faculty members pursuing studies in their area of expertise, coordinate cross-departmental research program initiatives, integrate their own research program that aligns with departmental priorities, and mentor and provide guidance to junior research staff.
The ideal candidate has exemplary interpersonal, communication, coordination and organizational skills, strong knowledge of the scientific terminology in the health sector, proven leadership and team-building skills within a clinical setting, and excellent problem-solving abilities.
This position reports to Dr. Kristina Krmpotic in the Department of Critical Care.
- Contribute to development and success of the departmental research strategy.
- Collaborate with departmental researchers to design sustainable programs.
- Develop independent research program aligned with departmental priorities.
- Consult with department members regarding study design and execution.
- Identify funding opportunities and prepare applications.
- Lead studies from conception to completion.
- Assist with manuscript writing and knowledge translation activities.
- Facilitate local participation in national clinical trials.
- Build relationships nationally through representation at CCCTG and within research networks.
- Liaise with patient-oriented research organizations.
- Organize research day, research rounds, etc.
- Deliver research curriculum content for department trainees and research staff.
- Other related duties as required to support Critical Care Research Program strategic goals.
Hours of Work
Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day
Your Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant field required.
- Five years of research experience in a relevant field required.
- Previous experience within IWK Health Centre, Nova Scotia Health or another academic hospital setting is required.
- Demonstrates methodological training in a relevant field at the graduate level as well as professional experience assisting, coordinating, and leading studies from conception to completion.
- Ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy, self-motivation, and professionalism.
- Exemplary interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing
- Confidence and interpersonal communication skill set necessary to establish new working relationships with various clinicians and teams.
- Ability to organize and manage workload with accuracy.
