The Elevate Teacher Residency is a teacher training program offering an innovative pathway into the teaching profession and a teaching credential in just one year. Residents gain hands-on teaching experience, learn alongside a highly effective mentor teacher, and join a supportive learning community of passionate aspiring educators.
The residency is a partnership committed to educational equity between Invictus Academy of Richmond, Elevate Teaching, and Loyola Marymount University (LMU).

THE ROLE
Elevate Teaching and our partner schools are seeking diverse, passionate Teacher Residents to join our first residency cohort beginning in June 2025. This is a unique opportunity to earn your teaching credential through an affordable pathway while learning how to teach in a supportive environment. Residents will work 4 days a week as a paid Instructional Assistant alongside an experienced mentor teacher while earning a preliminary teaching credential in Elementary Education (multiple subject), Math, Science or Special Education in just one year. Residents also have the option to pursue a Masters Degree after completion of the Residency year. After the Residency Year, graduates receive priority hiring as teachers at Invictus Academy of Richmond.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The quality of our school cannot exceed the quality of our teachers. In that spirit, we are seeking exceptional individuals to execute the following “essential job duties” and responsibilities:
- Co-teach 4-5 days a week alongside a mentor teacher, including planning and implementing engaging lessons that cater to diverse learning styles.
- Work with individual, small groups and whole class groups of students to provide differentiated support and create a positive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to assess student progress and implement interventions as needed.
- Participate in professional development with a cohort of peers.
- Engage with families and the community to foster strong relationships that support student success.
With students, you:
- Deliver excellent student supervision consistent with the age and abilities of students
- Set and hold high expectations for academics and behavior
- Develop trusting, authentic relationships with students and their families
- Create and maintain a joyful, safe, structured, and engaging school and classroom culture
- Demonstrate passion for the content area you teach
- Encourage students to take risks and learn from their mistakes
- Create opportunities for students to leverage the power of their voice
Whole School Responsibilities:

- Actively engage in professional development, including sharing strengths of your practice with colleagues
- Collaborate with fellow teachers, special education staff, and school leadership to ensure we continuously improve as a school and meet students’ needs
- Give and receive feedback to improve your practice, that of your peers, and school leaders, and create and maintain open, honest and respectful lines of communication

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Credentials Offered:
- Single Subject: Mathematics, Science, Social Science, ELA, Spanish
- Education Specialist (Mild/Moderate)
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree by May 2025
- Minimum 3.0 GPA (lower GPA considered with exemption letter)
- Basic Skills Requirement met via CBEST, SAT/ACT scores, or relevant coursework
- Authorization to work in the U.S.
- TB clearance and fingerprint clearance
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
Desired Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in a classroom setting or educational program is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with educators and students.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
- Willingness to engage in continuous professional learning throughout the residency year.
