Safety Officer

The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of workplace safety programs, policies, and procedures within the consulting engineering firm. The role involves identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety laws, standards, and regulations. The Safety Officer works collaboratively with project teams, clients, and subcontractors to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.
• Communicate safety standards and guidelines to employees, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
• Recommend and implement corrective and preventive measures to mitigate risks.
• Ensure compliance with local and international health and safety regulations, codes, and standards.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies during audits and inspections.
• Organize and conduct safety training programs, including toolbox talks, for employees and contractors.
• Maintain records of training sessions and certifications.
• Investigate workplace accidents, near-misses, and incidents to determine root causes.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend improvements to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date safety records, including risk assessments, inspection reports, and training logs.
• Submit regular safety performance reports to management.
• Conduct routine safety audits and inspections of project sites and office premises.
• Ensure that all safety equipment is in good condition and readily available.
• Develop and implement emergency response plans.
• Conduct drills and simulations to ensure readiness in case of emergencies.
• Work closely with project teams to integrate safety measures into project planning and execution.
• Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
• Stay updated on the latest health and safety trends, technologies, and best practices.
• Propose and implement innovative safety solutions to enhance workplace safety.

Required Education, Skills, and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
• Certification as a Safety Officer (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, COSH or equivalent).
• Minimum 2-5 years of experience, preferably within the engineering or construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of local and international health and safety laws and regulations.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications and safety management software.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Leadership and the ability to influence others to prioritize safety..
• Proficient in computer use, with strong organizational and communication skills to manage documentation effectively.
• Capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously and interacting with the construction project team efficiently.
• Willingness to work and be assigned to site projects.
• Willing to be deployed or assigned to site projects.
