We currently have an exciting new opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Safety Systems and Training Manager to join our Safety team.
The Safety Systems and Training Manager is responsible for managing the organisation’s safety management system (SMS) and managing training needs across all levels of the business. This role ensures that all safety practices comply with regulatory standards, promotes a proactive safety culture, and equips employees with the necessary skills to operate safely. The position ensures continuous improvement in safety awareness, employee behaviour and system effectiveness.

Key responsibilities:
The role's duties and accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the organisation’s safety management system to ensure it meets legal requirements and industry best practices.
- Oversee safety audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks to ensure the highest level of safety across all operations.
- Provide strategic input to senior leadership on safety issues, trends, and potential areas of risk.
- Collaborate with various departments to ensure that safety policies and training align with operational goals.
- Ensure that the SMS is up to date and aligned with both regulatory standards and internal policies.
- Lead the integration of new safety technologies and tools to enhance safety monitoring, reporting, and compliance.
- Monitor and analyse safety performance metrics to track the effectiveness of safety initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management, highlighting safety performance, trends, and recommended actions.
- In consultation with other departments, identify and design comprehensive safety training programs for all employees, ensuring training meets industry and regulatory standards.
- Ensure that all employees, including contractors and temporary staff, complete required safety training and are aware of their roles in maintaining a safe work environment.
The successful candidate will have:
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field.
- Professional safety certification (e.g., AIHS certification) is highly preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in safety systems management and training, or a related field, preferably in a high-risk environment (mining, construction, manufacturing)
- Proven ability to implement, manage, and improve safety management systems.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying training needs and implementing safety training programs and initiatives multiple sites or large-scale operations.
- Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations and standards, including ISO 45001.
- Proficient in risk management, incident investigation, compliance auditing and reporting for safety performance.
