The Scientist I is primarily a bench level job focusing on real time PCR and RT-PCR assay and product development in an FDA-QSR and ISO9001 compliant organization. The candidate will plan and execute laboratory research, demonstrate appropriate technical proficiency, scientific creativity and collaboration with cross-functional departments.
This position is part of the Biochip R&D Unit and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA (onsite). This is a full time onsite position. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design and develop unique PCR based in vitro diagnostic assays.
- Demonstrate conceptual and practical expertise in infectious disease field and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
- Implement verification and validation of SOPs and write technical reports.
- Work independently, but also receive guidance as needed.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or related field with related work experience
- Must have scientific laboratory bench work experience (pipetting, following written protocols, lab safety), and Knowledge of nucleic acid purification, PCR, qPCR, and RT-qPCR. Ability to work with basic laboratory instrumentation, and computer-based applications utilized in a laboratory environment.
- Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs and experience with statistical analysis tools such as Excel, Minitab, or JMP.
- Maintaining detailed experimental records and documents results in a laboratory notebook, presenting data at internal team meetings.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Handling microbiological and clinical specimens, and working in a BSL-2 environment.
- Optimizing Real time PCR or ddPCR.
- Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills

The salary range for this role is $68,000 to $93,000 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
