Senior Advisor - Protection - Nphs

About the Role

We have a permanent, full time role within our Protection directorate in NPHS as a Senior Advisor. Reporting directly to the Director Protection.

The primary purpose of the role is to develop advice in public health Protection, supporting the NPHS (National Public Health Service) Protection Directorate, and the wider organisation, to contribute to the agenda-setting activities of Health NZ and other agencies, and supporting Directorate capacity for planning, risk management and business operations.

The NPHS within Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

About you

You are someone who has an ability to select, adapt and use a range of analytical, policy and organisational frameworks, principles, tools and methods relevant to public health protection, and apply them appropriately to given issues. You have experience in an advisory role, applying critical thinking and using sound judgement to develop options, provide advice and improve business processes. You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification and/or equivalent experience (health or relevant field ideal)
  • Experience in a senior advisory role (or comparable role)
  • Experience contributing to business planning, risk management, or organisational performance in a complex environment
  • Clear, concise, communication skills with particular strengths in writing
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Knowledge of the health system, machinery of government, and organisational and management frameworks
  • A flexible, adaptable approach with the ability to respond to changing needs quickly and easily
  • Experience building the trust and confidence of senior leaders and strong interpersonal skills
