Senior Counselling Lecturer

Permanent Full-time opportunity (34 Hours per week, 1 FTE)

The School of Health & Counselling is seeking a motivated and experienced Counselling Lecturer to contribute to high-quality teaching, student success, and programme development.

This role is responsible for creating an engaging and effective learning environment using contemporary teaching approaches, supporting diverse learners, and integrating theory with counselling practice. You will deliver teaching, contribute to assessment and moderation, support student wellbeing and retention, and participate in ongoing course and programme development.

You will also contribute to research-informed teaching practice, maintain currency in the counselling profession, and engage with industry and community networks to enhance learning outcomes and programme relevance.

This is a permanent, full-time role based primarily at the Manukau and Ōtara campuses. Some travel within the Auckland region is required; therefore, a full New Zealand driver licence is essential.

You will bring:

  • A minimum of three years’ counselling practice and/or teaching experience
  • Membership with NZAC or NZCCA and a current practising certificate (if applicable)
  • A Master’s qualification in counselling (or working towards one) and a relevant Bachelor’s degree
  • A commitment to completing a tertiary teaching qualification if not already held
  • Experience in student assessment, course delivery, and programme development
  • Strong organisational, digital, and communication skills

You will demonstrate:

  • The ability to design and deliver inclusive, student-centred learning experiences
  • Competence in supporting diverse learners, including Māori, Pacific and ESOL students
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, including culturally responsive and bicultural practice
  • A collaborative approach, contributing positively to teaching teams and wider school activities
  • An interest in research, professional development, and continuous improvement
  • Experience in creative or expressive counselling modalities and industry engagement will be advantageous.

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging teaching and learning activities
  • Develop and moderate assessments and maintain accurate student records
  • Support student success, including identifying and responding to learner needs
  • Contribute to programme review, development, and quality assurance processes
  • Participate in industry engagement, research, and professional development
  • Actively contribute to school, campus, and community initiatives
