Global Legal plays an important role in protecting the Group’s reputation by helping to future-proof the organisation through robust legal risk and issue advisory. Responsible for providing comprehensive legal advice to senior management and all global businesses and functions, the team offers a diverse range of legal skills, jurisdictional experience and practice specialisms across all countries and territories in which our businesses operate.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel, Premier Banking.

Principal Responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Assist and support the HSBC Premier Banking business in Singapore in its ambitious growth plans
  • Provide expert, commercially sensible and pragmatic legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that legal, reputational and conduct risks are identified, reported and mitigated
  • Review, assess and advise on the sale of investment products including product suitability, customer journeys, sales process and marketing material through digital and face to face channels and where relevant on a cross-border basis. Asset classes include fixed income, equities, insurance and investment linked policies and structured products
  • Draft, review and where relevant negotiate third party agreements and customer documents (including standard product documentation, distribution agreements and agreements for new strategic launches)
  • Advise on matters arising during the client lifecycle including data privacy, client on-boarding and exits; Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets
  • Identify new legal, regulatory and market developments that can affect business activities, and advise our business teams on how these developments may affect their business; Support local, regional, and global projects and initiatives
  • Advise relevant Management on non-standard legal, and conduct and reputational risks. Ensure senior Legal Management is briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise.
  • Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with business managers, stakeholders, and the Global Legal function. Lead and manage external counsel engagement on transactions or projects in a cost-effective manner
Requirements

To be successful you will need

  • Qualified Lawyer with a minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience in wealth management and investments products and client lifecycle matters. Additional experience with e-payments, disputes and complaint management would be an advantage
  • Experienced and confident practitioner with excellent technical legal skills
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative and apply good commercial and legal judgment
  • Ability to operate in dynamic and fluid situations, and to handle a diverse range of issues, deal with new or unexpected situations and work under pressure
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong inter-personal skills
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving in an open and connected manner
  • Strong team player and a collaborative teammate, but also a self-starter who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial drive
  • Collaborative, adaptable, open to innovation and new ideas/ ways of working
