Senior Property Accountant

Job Overview

We're seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated Senior Property Accountant to join one of the fastest-growing property management organizations in the New York metropolitan area. This role oversees a diverse portfolio of mixed-use residential, co-op, condo, and commercial assets. You'll be responsible for financial accuracy and client reporting—analyzing financial data, providing feedback, and addressing asset performance.

Responsibilities

Complete month-end closings on time and produce accurate, high-quality financial reports (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement) on both accrual and cash basis

Prepare, reconcile, and analyze general ledger accounts for all assigned properties, including journal entries for accruals, reclassifications, and financial statement adjustments

Review and generate budget variance reports with explanatory narratives

Review and prepare capitalized expenditure, property tax, insurance, and accrued operating expense schedules

Prepare yearly and monthly updates of fixed asset and intangible schedules

Oversee weekly cash management and forecasting

Supervise, plan, and review the work of staff accountants

Review and complete bank, escrow, and mortgage reconciliations

Review and record acquisition and disposition transactions

Assist property managers in preparing annual operating budgets

Monitor accounts receivable activity

Collaborate with external auditors and tax accountants on year-end activities

File RPIEs, TC 201/3s, and tax petitions

Perform and complete special ad hoc projects as needed

Requirements

Minimum 3 years of accounting experience (real estate or property management preferred)

BA in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Excellent analytical, mathematical, and written/verbal communication skills

Strong decision-maker with the ability to work independently

Preferred Experience

Experience with property management accounting software (e.g., Yardi, Rent Manager, MRI)

Familiarity with NYC compliance filings (RPIE, Tax Commission protests)

Pay: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
