Senior Web Developer (Ruby On Rails) [Sweden/Uk]

Auctionet is a marketplace where auction houses from Sweden, Great Britain, Finland, Spain, Germany, and Denmark sell furniture, art, design objects, collectibles, and much more. We are now looking for a Senior Web Developer (Ruby on Rails) to join our Marketplace team and help us create the world’s best auction marketplace.

About the Role

You'll join a small, tight-knit, and experienced Product & Development team that makes “everyday antiques” and a sustainable lifestyle easily accessible to everyone.

As a Senior Web Developer in the Marketplace team, you’ll build and evolve the end-customer-facing auction platform at auctionet.com, used by over a million people every day. The team is also responsible for our native apps for iOS and Android.

You will:

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable systems in Ruby on Rails.
  • Improve the marketplace experience through new features, personalization, and performance work.
  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, and other developers to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in pair programming, code reviews, and continuous deployment.
  • Contribute to an open, learning-focused engineering culture.

This role is based in Stockholm, Malmö or the UK, with the option to work remotely.

We value your well-being and growth — offering flexible working hours and discouraging overtime. You will be provided with a quality computer and a work phone.

We also invest in your professional development through a generous budget and time allowance for conferences, code retreats, courses, and more.

About the Team

The Marketplace team is responsible for the end-customer-facing auction marketplace at auctionet.com, including our apps, with the ambition to create the world's best auction marketplace, filled with interesting items and content for buyers across the globe.

Our main stack is Ruby on Rails, Turbo, and Stimulus. We’re into modern technology and pragmatic development practices. We try new things constantly and keep the things we like — such as pair programming, automated testing, retrospectives, code review, trunk-based development with continuous deployment, and DevOps.

We are taking inspiration from Shape Up, alternating 4 weeks of planned work with 2 weeks of "cooldown" – tying up loose ends, doing maintenance, improving our tooling, keep up to date with our technologies, and trying out new languages or frameworks.

Examples of upcoming work:

  • Re-imagine the search and browse experience.
  • Work with personalisation to match items with buyers.
  • Optimise background jobs for sending notifications about newly published items.

We also contribute to open source, release our own libraries, and host and attend meetups.

About You

You enjoy taking ownership — from idea to production — and find satisfaction in writing clean, well-tested, and maintainable code. You’re collaborative, communicative, and curious, and thrive in a small team where you can make a tangible impact.

We think you have:

  • Experience: Significant professional web development experience.
  • Good communication skills: You can explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Passion: You take pride in your work and want to deliver code with high quality.
  • A curious mindset: You are open to learning and sharing knowledge with others.
  • A team player mentality: You help others and ask for help when needed. We do a lot of pair programming!

We do value if you have an interest in art, design or collectibles, and an interest in product design. Familiarity with Xcode or Android Studio is also a plus.

The role is mostly back-end heavy, but since we're a small team you'll often touch the front-end as well. Sometimes also our native apps (which are mostly web views).

Please note that we're only accepting candidates based in Sweden or the UK.

If that is you, apply now! Got questions? Reach out to our team anytime.

Our Recruitment Process

We have a straightforward process without unpleasant surprises.

We start with a short phone interview to see if we might be a good match.

Next, you’ll meet the team in two or three conversations where we’ll talk about you, the role, and Auctionet — and you’ll get the chance to meet your future teammates.

You may also be asked to complete a small take-home exercise between meetings.

We don’t do “gotcha” whiteboard interviews — we just want to get to know how you think and work.

Apply By

We will be reviewing applications continuously, but please submit your application no later than December 12th 2025.

Who We Are

Auctionet was founded in 2011 by a team of people with unique experience in online auctions.

Auctionet has around 170 employees and is the parent company of a wider group with approximately 400 colleagues across multiple countries. Our main office is near Stureplan in central Stockholm, with logistics centers in Malmö, Stockholm, Gothenburg, Westbury, and Cologne.

In 2021, Auctionet acquired the auction house Stockholms Auktionsverk, making us by far the largest auction marketplace in the Nordics — and one of the largest in the world.

With this acquisition, we now own and operate both the oldest auction house in the world (1674) and the second oldest (1681) — meaning we’ve been working with sustainability for over 350 years(!).

Join us in our vision to make valued objects accessible for everyone, from everywhere!
