Base Hourly:
$19.64
Class/Calendar:
B21, 12 months

New Hire Experience:
1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum
New Hire Education:
1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position
Job Summary:
To refuel and check fluid levels in buses and district vehicles.
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work for Vehicle Maintenance in a safety sensitive position. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment. In compliance with federal law, employees required to have a Commercial Driver’s License shall also be tested upon application, post-accident and at random.
Key Responsibilities:
- Refuel buses and district vehicles as required
- Keep accurate service records on gas, oil, parts, etc.
- Perform required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely, neat and legible manner
- Follow safe work procedures and keep shop area maintained and free from hazards
- Make service calls for emergency repairs and operate light and heavy-duty towing equipment for vehicle recovery
- Report vehicles not conforming to safety standards and perform minor repairs
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Inspect, diagnose and make minor repairs on district vehicles (i.e. buses, automobiles, vans and trucks)
- Lubricate, adjust and service equipment
- Steam clean engines and parts and assist mechanics
- Perform duties of other assigned areas (changing tires, wash buses, etc. as needed)
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications:
- High School education or equivalent
- Valid, or ability to obtain, Arizona CDL driver’s license class B with P endorsement
- One year of mechanical and diesel experience

- Ability to operate or to be trained to operate general shop equipment (i.e. brake drum lathe)
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Primarily based in school district transportation garages, service bays, or maintenance facilities
- May involve outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to diesel/gasoline fumes, loud noises, and hazardous materials (e.g., cleaning chemicals, oils).
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crawling, and climbing
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 50 pounds (sometimes more with assistance)
