We are looking for a seasoned Site Director to setup and lead the complete operational organisation for our groundbreaking sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility, DSL-01, in Delfzijl. With a strong background in refinery or chemical plant operations, you will play a crucial role in SkyNRG across Execute phase of this project (starting April 2025) and to ensure building up the operational organisation to be ready for the start-up of the facility in 2028. This role involves close collaboration with the project director and project team, ensuring operational readiness and excellence from day one.

About the role
Guided by the existing (high-level) Operations Readiness program, you will be overall responsible for building the organisational foundation needed to operate the plant in a safe and effective way. This includes all disciplines and departments necessary to run a production plant, such as safety management, operations, supply chain management, human resources, and commercial & financial. You will also be responsible for the establishment of all the required comprehensive operational procedures and programs to achieve a ‘first-time-right’ commissioning and start-up of DSL-01. You will report to the SkyNRG COO.
Key responsibilities
Before Operational Phase/during Construction Phase:
- Build and maintain an effective relationship with the Project Director and project team, supporting the successful implementation of the project within budget and schedule promise.
- Build and train the organisation to execute the Operations Readiness plan and to operate the Asset post-commissioning and startup, including competence development.
- Work with SkyNRG (as 100% shareholder of the DSL-01 asset) to develop a competitive compensation structure for all future employees of the DSL-01 organisation
- Develop and execute the Operations Readiness Management plan, including assurance.
- Manage the Operations Readiness organisation and budget.
- Formulate vision, strategies, and philosophies for asset organisation readiness, start-up, commissioning, and early operations (including maintenance and laboratory), laying the foundation for detailed operational procedures and documents.
- Manage key regional stakeholders and represent the DSL-01 facility in the relevant settings
- Provide leadership for a seamless transition from Execute phase to Operational phase.
During Operational Phase:
- Manage the execution of commissioning and start-up.
- Take responsibility for achieving the operational targets in safety, SAF production, plant
- Work with operating team, maintenance and supply chain partners to ensure ramp-up to nameplate capacity is achieved as quickly as possible
- Set direction and establish a performance and safety culture for the site.
- Own the Plant (Asset) Management System, including monitoring, continuous improvement, and establishing a learning organisation.
- Actively contribute to the global corporate realisation of SkyNRG’s ambitions, serving as a key representative of one of the company’s first production sites.
Your profile
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of operational experience in the (petro) chemical industry, particularly in production or business management roles.
- Proven experience in greenfield projects (highly valued).
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills.
- "Hands-on" mentality, with a proactive approach to business growth and expansion.
- Fluent in English (both written and verbal); proficiency in Dutch is a significant plus.
- Eligible to work in the Netherlands.
