Healthcare Summer 2025 Administrative Internship Program – Graduate (Hybrid)

As an intern in a hybrid role, you will be offered the flexibility of working with your peers and leaders in both onsite SHC location and virtually from your alternate work location via various collaborative platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft teams.

Our past graduate summer interns have participated in areas that provide a diverse range of experiences, allowing interns to develop critical thinking, technical proficiency, and organizational skills while contributing to meaningful projects within Stanford Health Care, such as:

Finance Internship: The finance internship focuses on healthcare financial analysis and data visualization, requiring proficiency in Excel, Tableau, and potentially SQL or Python, with projects such as month-end financial analysis, ad-hoc variance analysis, and process improvement identification.

Chief Strategy Officer Internship: Interns in the Chief Strategy Officer's office may work on projects like operationalizing integrated practice models, assessing medical practice service line quality initiatives, and implementing behavioral health programs, involving tasks such as preparing presentations, conducting focus groups, and applying project management skills.

Additional Internship Opportunities: Other internship opportunities include Workforce Health & Wellness, focusing on employee wellness program research and literature review, and Ambulatory Care Business Operations, involving document cleanup, year-end activities, project support, and standard work documentation.

To succeed in the Healthcare Summer 2025 Administrative Internship Program at Stanford Health Care, graduate interns should focus on developing several key skills:

Self-Motivation and Initiative: Interns should be self-starters who are eager to learn and know when to ask for help. They should be open to feedback and exhibit an interest in a career in analytics.

Organizational Skills: Being detail-oriented and highly organized is crucial for managing data entry, supporting project managers, and participating in daily operations. Interns will need to manage their time effectively and stay organized to handle multiple tasks.

Adaptability and Eagerness to Learn: Interns should be adaptable and eager to learn, as they will be exposed to various projects and tasks. This includes being quick learners and able to adapt to new software applications and environments.

Communication Skills: Effective communication is essential for interacting with clinical staff, participating in project coordination, and engaging with various learners. Interns will need to communicate well with a variety of clinical staff and display CI-Care values.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is important, as well as familiarity with data visualization tools like Tableau and potentially SQL or Python.

Critical Thinking: Interns will need to identify and manage supply disruptions, conduct data analysis, and support process improvement projects. Critical thinking skills are important for solving problems and making informed decisions.

Teamwork and Collaboration: Interns will work with diverse teams and need to enjoy being part of a team. Collaboration skills are important for supporting project coordination and employee engagement.

These skills will help interns excel in their roles and contribute meaningfully to Stanford Health Care.

A Brief Overview
The purpose of this job is to gain practical experience in health care administration and operations by contributing to a specific project and/or department operations.

What you will do

  • Independently research and analyze data from internal and external sources
  • Interface with clinicians, employees, and other leaders of the organization to understand perspectives and/or share findings
  • Draft deliverables and other project related materials (e.g., meeting agendas, project work plans, action item logs)
  • Present project findings and results to internal audiences


Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University
  • Entering or enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited College or University
  • For IT Intern roles: currently enrolled in undergrad or grad program.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to discuss and solve complex problems in area of expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to create direction and work plans for day-to-day and project work

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $28.61 - $36.47 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
