Trainee Fishmeal Operator

Sealord Group has fishing operations, which include all deep-water fishing activities as well as international and joint venture deep fishing activities, in New Zealand and Australia.


We have a Fixed Term vacancy in the Nelson land based fishmeal plant for a Trainee Fishmeal Operator.

The role is to process the secondary and waste products from primary fish fillet production into value added products like fishmeal and fertilisers through rendering and drying processes.

The normal hours of work are 45 hours per week, worked Monday – Friday, 6.00am to 3.00pm, however due to the variable nature of the business, the successful candidate must be flexible to work different and additional overtime hours is required.

On job training will be provided to the suitable candidate.


To be successful in this role, you must:

  • The ability to consistently meet processing standards
  • Be willing to learn and take instruction, working cooperatively with a small and dedicated team who are passionate about doing a great job.
  • Be physically able to do some heavy lifting when required
  • Be reliable to attend work and be punctual for shift starts
  • Have basic mechanical aptitude and have the capacity and capability to translate new information into practical job application.

It would also be beneficial although not essential to have a current forklift licence.


A satisfactory pre-employment drug test and a physical medical assessment will be required to be considered for this role. Applicants must have legal entitlement to live and work in New Zealand.
