Transmission Customer Planning Manager
Transmission Customer Planning Manager – Permanent Full Time – Perth CBD

In this newly created role, you will lead the development of transmission customer connections to the Southwest Interconnected System (SWIS), managing everything from customer inquiries to creating connection options, performing essential modelling, and overseeing the commissioning process.
You’ll also play a key role in developing and maintaining power system models that support the broader Western Power business, ensuring reliability and efficiency across the network. With a strong focus on engineering planning, you will provide strategic direction within the organisation, balancing financial, technical, commercial, and regulatory considerations.
Your Role in Action
Effectively lead and develop Transmission Customer Connections Area to:
- Provide technical advice and assessments for new generation proposals seeking network connections, ensuring efficient, cost-effective solutions with minimal risk.
- Monitor the performance of transmission-connected generators, collaborating with AEMO to arrange necessary improvements.
- Manage the development of power system models, databases, and study cases for technical studies related to system dynamics, transients, and more.
- Oversee the Generator Performance Standard process to ensure compliance with WEM obligations, developing supporting processes and guidelines for customers.
- Oversee and witness Generator commissioning testing, approving documentation and liaising with customers and AEMO.
- Work closely with Grid Vision and Distribution Grid Strategy teams to align Transmission Customer Connections with stakeholder needs.
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver justifiable commercial works proposals.
- Provide timely, accurate planning advice to stakeholders, ensuring alignment with service level agreements.
- Contribute to business planning and network operations as part of the business operating model
What Makes You a Great Fit
- Qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- Strong leadership, influencing, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detailed working knowledge of the techniques and systems associated with effective dynamic, transient, power quality and capacity planning.
- Proven track record of effective management and leadership of high-profile planning teams.
- A demonstrated understanding of the regulatory framework in which organisations operate and the link between business decisions and their impact on the regulatory outcomes.
- An understanding of the regulatory, financial, commercial, and technological drivers of the management of electricity assets.
- Broad knowledge of power system plant and application, with direct experience in planning or power system analysis.
- Specific knowledge of normal planning criteria, principles, and processes and of supporting software systems normally used for power system simulation and analysis. Specific knowledge of power system analysis in respect to various dynamic, transient, and other performances and including harmonics.
- Knowledge of regulatory process and legislation, as well as Market and Technical rules.
- Comprehensive understanding of network regulation and the requirements this places on justification and development of transmission, distribution and volumetric projects.
