Position Summary
As a leader of the tune shop, you and your team will be responsible for providing exceptional tune work for Mt Bachelor guests, along with maintaining our ski/snowboard rental fleet to the highest level. You must possess modern knowledge of ski/board tuning techniques and understand different generations of ski/snowboard equipment, how ski/snowboard technology has evolved, and tuning techniques for all equipment. You must have experience operating manual tuning equipment, mounting skis, and servicing snowboard bindings. Our tune shop team must also have a general knowledge of safety procedures and PPE use when working around large machines, power tools, chemicals, and hand tools. This is an inside job that requires extended periods of standing, bending, pushing, and reaching. You must possess exemplary guest service skills, be able to provide instruction on proper equipment use with team members, and present accurate maintenance and repair recommendations. Strong communication skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work as a team are critical. You may be asked to help with rentals as needed, depending on business levels. You will also need to help lead our team with best practices for ASTM testing for rental skis and guest skis, getting a mount or adjustment services.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
  • Lead and train the tune shop team on all aspects of tuning machines. This includes proper use, safety, maintenance, cleaning, and what it takes to get top-tier results on equipment being processed.
  • Organize the repair shop to facilitate timely tune-up services for all guests.
  • Provide technical expertise to guests, employees, and key mountain departments such as patrol.
  • Have a great array of ski and snowboard repair and maintenance skills with 2 years of experience. This includes but is not limited to: base repairs, edge repair, delamination repair, flattening bases, structuring bases, edge tuning, waxing, binding repair, binding testing, and binding installation.
  • Follow through with the correct execution of ski binding mounts and adjustments, including all release of liability paperwork and certifications needed.
  • Intake of guest equipment; evaluating, recommending, documenting services based on specific equipment, ability levels, and mountain conditions.
  • Managing daily workload and ensuring the team is doing the same.
  • Responsible for quality control on all services provided.
  • Calculate appropriate labor charges for extra repair services.
  • Establish and maintain a customer base.
  • Facilitate an informative equipment return process; explanation of services performed and equipment function.
  • Perform regular fleet inspection and necessary fleet maintenance services as requested by the Rental Manager or Rental Supervisors.
  • Operating POS software and cash register with great accuracy, with the ability to train others on it also.
  • Ensure closing procedures, such as general cleanup and closing of POS, happen daily. This includes doing cash deposit drops as needed.
  • Build schedules as needed and perform daily/weekly machine cleaning, maintenance, and record keeping.
  • Build a labor schedule in line with business levels.
  • Communication with the manager on machine and supply needs.
  • Provide technical training on all tune and repair services, product knowledge, standard operating procedure, and functions.
  • Organize the shop for the most efficient use and maintain a clean and organized environment.
  • Ability to drive a work vehicle to all rental locations to pick up rental gear to be tuned as needed.
  • Be a key holder; open and close the rental and tune shop as needed.
  • Follow the correct ASTM protocol for accident reports involving guest injuries on our rental skis and boards.
  • Ensure all routine machine maintenance is completed promptly.
  • You must be able to stand for 10 hours per shift.
Secondary Function
Provide Ski and Snowboard Tech assistance to the Rental shop when needed for snow removal projects, moving ski racks, and all other duties assigned. When needed, help with leading of rental staff upon request. Must be able to open and close the rental shop and the tune shop as needed.

Mt. Bachelor Repair team works together in a very fast-paced atmosphere. Our staff is required to be knowledgeable and professional. Our staff must be passionate about our sports and willing to use their knowledge to assist our guests. Our team must share a passion for perfecting our service and techniques so we can continue to provide the best tuning and repair experience possible.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Number of employees supervised: 5-6
  • Positions Supervised: Repair Tech 1
  • Scheduling and assigning work: Creation Repair Shop schedule, delegation of duties within the shop team.
  • Training: All applicable binding, ski, and snowboard repair/adjustment/tuning and triage.
  • Disciplinary Actions: Make recommendations to the Rental Manager or the Rental Supervisor

Guests, various employees, & ski/ride instructors.
Specific Job Skills
  • License/Certifications: Ability to pass binding certification indemnity tests for 4 major manufacturers.
  • Technical: Understand and perform modern ski tuning techniques.
  • Physical Capabilities: Ability to push, pick up, and drag 50 lbs.
  • Must have experience with or functional knowledge of the following equipment: Alpine skis & boots, Alpine Touring skis & boots, Telemark skis & boots, Alpine snowboards, and Alpine Touring snowboards.
Education/Related Experience
  • Minimum Education: High School or Equivalent Required.
  • Minimum time in related position: 2+ seasons/years as a tuning/repair shop employee with exposure to guest service. 2 years of advanced tuning work history (highly preferred).

Current Hiring Range: $19/hr
