Vice President And General Manager, Asia-Pacific

Job Dimensions:

The primary responsibility of the Vice President & General Manager, Howmet Wheel Systems, Asia/Pacific Rim is to provide direction to the Commercial Vehicle Wheel business. In this role, the incumbent works with their direct reports to develop, recommend and implement market plans, sales programs, pricing strategies and recommends appropriate advertising, PR and promotional activities for increasing the penetration of Howmet Wheel Systems in assigned and new markets. Reporting to the incumbent will be the Regional Controller, Regional Marketing Manager, and Australia Managing Director. The incumbent will have substantial input into the development of business unit tactical and strategic plans, particularly in relation strategic growth planning and financial forecasting and analysis. Role requires 25%-50% travel within the region.

Key competencies required include the following:

  • Sales and Marketing Acumen: The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of delivering strong results in managing a sales and marketing organization. He/she will be a successful sales leader who has wide experience and exposure to sales best practices and will be a true business partner capable of establishing value-added, trust-based customer relationships. He/she will have demonstrated an ability to generate new business, expand existing customer relationships, and penetrate new markets in a rigorous, fact-based, and collaborative manner. The individual will have experience with all disciplines of marketing such as product/market assessment, customer analysis, product development, positioning, pricing, advertising/media, promotion, and distribution. He/she will have significant experience in applying these marketing disciplines in a business-to-business marketing situation. A track record of excellence in executing sales and marketing programs is a must.
  • Strategic Orientation : The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a strong ability to undertake category, business, and competitive assessments in developing strategies and tactics to drive exceptional growth and profitability. It is critical that this individual will have created winning sales and marketing plans, rather than just enacting someone else’s plans. This individual will have a strong track record of being able to assess and prioritize key business initiatives against strategic and financial objectives. He/she will be a creative, open-minded thinker with the ability to develop unique approaches for various brand, product, and distribution challenges.
  • Talent Management: The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated strong ability to effectively manage and develop the talent with his/her organization utilizing talent management and learning and development tools and opportunities.

Major Activities & Key Challenges:

Under the direction of the HWS BU President, this position is accountable for:

  • Full Profit and Loss accountability including cash from operations, working capital and inventory for the operating locations in China, Japan and Australia in the Commercial Vehicle Wheels Business.
  • Developing a 1, 3 and 5 year strategic plan capable of delivering profitable growth for the Commercial Vehicle Wheel business portfolio in the Asia Pacific Rim region within the next 3 years. Key markets are the Heavy and Medium Duty Truck, Bus and Trailer segments in Japan, Australia, China, South Korea, India, Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and India.
  • Achieve annual plans for profit, growth and cash, which meet or exceed the annual plan each year.
  • Developing the Commercial Vehicle Wheels leadership team through the use of talent management and organizational development.
  • Directing an organization that is supportive of both company and customer priorities including values, safety, reliability and profitability. Identifying and leading implementation of effective manufacturing, business, product and information systems requirements consistent with meeting these needs.
  • Ensuring Compliance with ASAT, EHS, SOX and ABS requirements for all applicable Commercial Vehicle Wheel locations.
  • Support other high impact HWS initiatives as required and/or requested, which will include potential organic and/or inorganic growth initiatives required to meet the revenue targets for the region.
Providing direction to the Commercial Vehicle Wheels Asia Pacific Rim businesses.

Environment, Health & Safety Requirements:

  • The person in this role must be comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing environment.
  • This role can be based in Australia or Japan and requires frequent travel within the region
  • Frequent communication is required with colleagues in the United States, often requiring flexibility regarding working hours due to time zone differences.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • 5+ years of commercial experience
  • While relocation is available for this position, preference is given to local candidates

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with automotive or commercial transportation producer or supplier
  • Experience in commercial vehicle wheels industry
  • 10+ years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment
