WebRTC Interface for Push-To-Talk
Tait PTToX is a broadband push-to-talk solution that allows traditional radio users to communicate with broadband devices. To enable interworking with modern web business tools, this project aims to enhance the PTToX server with a WebRTC interface for use by web-based consoles, voice recorders, and other applications.
The duties of the role will include:
In this role, you will study the existing SIP-based PTToX server stack, research WebRTC technologies, and create a WebRTC interface for the PTToX server. You will also create a prototype front end that demonstrates the ability for a web browser-based user to participate in voice calls with other PTToX users.
You have the opportunity to gain experience in:
- Voice Over IP technologies such as SIP, RTP, WebRTC
- Server back-end development using ASP.NET and C++
- Web frontend development
- Systems architecture design
- User experience design
This opportunity is suited to someone:
- That can develop software in an application development language such as C++/C#
- With an understanding and interest in networking/internet protocols
- Fast learner and problem solver
- Passionate
- Ideally you will have some experience with Javascript web frontend development using a framework (e.g. Vue.js)
- Ability to code in Python would be advantageous

To be eligible for a summer internship, you must:
- Have studied or be studying at a New Zealand tertiary education institute (note: students who have completed study overseas are not eligible).
- Be studying at NZQA level 6-10, or if study has been completed, the closing date of the last semester must be less than 12 months ago.
- Be studying science, technology, engineering, design or business.
- Be legally permitted to work in New Zealand.
- Not have been previously employed at our business unless part-time or temporary.
- Not have undertaken more than two Experience Grant Internships with our Business.
This is a fixed term paid summer internship position for 400 hours, commencing in Monday 17th November 2025.
