At He Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens, we have over 130 kindergartens across the regions we serve, bringing learning, connection, and fun to families across Whanganui, Central Plateau, Horowhenua, Manawatū, Kapiti, Porirua, Greater Wellington, Upper Hutt, Wairarapa and South Otago. We also provide a home-based service - Etu Ao in Porirua and Levin.

More than 6,000 children now attend one of Whānau Manaaki's kindergartens and around 150 children are enrolled with our Pasifika-focused Etu Ao homebased service.

Facilities Property Maintenance Officer
Permanent | Up to 32 hours per week
New Plymouth | Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens

Whānau Manaaki Kindergartens is a not-for-profit early childhood education organisation supporting 24 kindergartens across Taranaki. We are seeking a Facilities Property Maintenance Officer to help maintain safe, well-presented, and compliant learning environments for tamariki and staff.

About the role:
You will carry out general repairs and preventative maintenance across kindergarten buildings, playgrounds, and outdoor learning areas, supporting smooth day-to-day operations.

Key responsibilities include:
  • General repairs and maintenance (doors, furniture, storage)
  • Playground and outdoor area maintenance
  • Basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and surface repairs
  • Preventative maintenance checks
  • Responding to urgent maintenance requests
  • Coordinating specialist contractors when required
  • Supporting fleet management and minor capital works
About you:
  • Experience in building, facilities, or maintenance work
  • Strong health and safety awareness, ideally in child-safe environments
  • Well organised, reliable, and able to work independently
  • Confident communicator and positive team player
  • Relevant qualifications beneficial but not essential

This is a varied role offering flexibility, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a real difference in early childhood education.
