Accountant

Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical accounting skills, a solid understanding of GAAP, and proficiency with various accounting software. This role involves managing financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and supporting financial analysis to drive informed decision-making. The Accountant will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial statements and supporting organizational growth through effective financial management.

Duties

• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
• Manage general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and balance sheet reconciliation.
• Conduct accounts payable and accounts receivable processing, ensuring timely payments and collections.
• Perform bank reconciliations and cash flow analysis to monitor liquidity.
• Support budgeting processes, financial forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Ensure compliance with SOX controls, LIHTC regulations, and other relevant laws such as securities law, wills, trusts & estate law, and governmental accounting standards.
• Assist with internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
• Utilize accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms for accurate data entry and reporting.
• Prepare regulatory reports and support tax filings by maintaining detailed records of financial transactions.
• Mentor junior team members on technical accounting concepts such as double entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, accrual accounting, and financial report writing.
• Analyze financial data to support strategic planning, financial management decisions, and operational improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
• Proven experience in corporate accounting within a public accounting or non-profit environment.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, SEC regulations (if applicable), SOX compliance, LIHTC programs, and governmental accounting standards.
• Proficiency with accounting software including QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft, or similar systems; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
• Familiarity with financial concepts such as balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and financial statement interpretation.
• Experience with financial report writing and analysis to support management decision-making.
• Knowledge of securities law and regulatory reporting is a plus.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
