Position Title: Youth Care Worker

Location: Homebound Residential Care Shoreline, WA

Reports To: Program Manager

Position Type: Full-Time/Part-Time

Schedule Type: Days, Nights, Weekends

About Homebound Residential Care: Homebound Residential Care is a behavioral rehabilitation facility dedicated to providing a safe, supportive trauma informed environment for five (5) teens in the WA state Foster Care System who are aged 13-18. Our mission is to help teens transition into safe homes and environments or become independent young adults.

Job Summary: The Youth Care Worker is responsible for providing direct care and supervision to residents, ensuring their safety and well-being, assisting with daily routines, managing crises, and supporting residents in their therapeutic goals. The role also includes maintaining the cleanliness of the home, cooking meals, managing outdoor maintenance, and driving residents to appointments. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, reliable, and able to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Resident Supervision and Support:
  • Provide direct supervision and support to residents.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
  • Assist residents with daily routines, including personal hygiene, meal times, and bedtime.
  • Engage residents in positive, supportive interactions and activities.
  • Household Management:
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the home, including common areas and resident rooms.
  • Cook and prepare meals for residents according to dietary guidelines.
  • Shop for food and household supplies as needed.
  • Maintain the exterior of the home, including mowing the lawn and general upkeep.
  • Transportation:
  • Drive residents to appointments, activities, and outings.
  • Ensure the safety of residents during transport.
  • Keep accurate records of appointments and transportation logs.
  • Crisis Management:
  • Respond to and manage crisis situations in accordance with Homebound’s protocols.
  • Provide de-escalation support and interventions as needed.
  • Document and report incidents promptly and accurately.
  • Professional Boundaries and Relationships:
  • Uphold professional boundaries with residents and staff.
  • Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships with residents.
  • Enforce the rules and policies of Homebound Residential Care consistently and fairly.
  • Training and Development:
  • Stay up to date with required training and professional development.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Continuously improve skills and knowledge relevant to the care and support of residents.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of resident activities, behaviors, and incidents.
  • Complete shift reports and communicate effectively with incoming staff.
  • Trauma-Informed Care:
  • Apply principles of trauma-informed care in all interactions with residents.
  • Support residents in developing coping skills and strategies for managing their emotions and behaviors.
  • Cultural Competence:
  • Provide culturally responsive care to residents from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ensure inclusive and respectful interactions with BIPOC and LGBTQIA youth.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous experience working with youth in a residential or similar setting preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed in crisis situations.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with youth.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Experience working with diverse groups, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA youth, is a plus.
  • Ability to pass a background check and TB Test.
  • Ability to complete a Right Response Descalation Class within 120 days of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to participate in physical activities with residents.
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform outdoor maintenance tasks such as mowing the lawn.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a residential (house) facility.
  • Interaction with residents who may display challenging behaviors.
  • Exposure to varying levels of noise and activity.

Pay: $21.00 - $23.60 per hour
