The Assistant Accountant reports to the Financial Controller and is responsible for a range of essential hotel accounting and finance processes and tasks related to any of our 3 JetPark Hotels (Auckland/Hamilton/Rotorua). These processes involve the management and reporting of expenses and income from multiple hotel departments and site. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in analysis and auditing, good reporting skills, and a keen eye for detail and accuracy. The successful person will be happy in a multi-faceted accounting role where a can-do attitude and interest in complexity will serve you well.
Position Particulars
- This is full-time permanent position, 40 hours per week.
- Usual days of work are Monday to Friday but may include weekends or night shift for periodic financial tasks or audits etc. as we have a 24-hour operation.
- This position is bases on-site (office based) at our Auckland hotel. Due to the nature of the hotel operation a work from home situation cannot be accommodated.
- Overnight travel to other hotels will be required from time to time.
- Salary range $65K-$68K per annum.
Main tasks, duties and responsibilities include:
- The analysis, reporting, reconciliation, compliance and financial management and administration of the hotels AP, AR, payroll, stock & inventory, cash, and general finances.
- Contribution to a range of financial reports for key monthly, quarterly and annual milestones and for use by Managers in individual hotel departments, audits and reviews, and at Executive/Board level.
- The use, audit and refinement of internal accounting systems and software.
- Audit and reconciliation of bank accounts, GL, night audit, balance sheet etc.
- Assist the Financial controller with annual budget preparation and forecasting, fixed asset register, and other critical financial projects.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- 2+ Years’ experience in a multi-faceted accounting role with advanced skills in AR/AP/ NZ Payroll reporting and preparation for month-end, P&L, annual, and other financial statements.
- Strong reconciliation skills including experience in reconciling supplier and bank accounts, ledgers, and auditing a range of financial processes and systems.
- Fastidious attention to detail with a consistently high standard of accuracy and follow - up on tasks through to completion.
- Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and managing a wide range of relationships including vendors and customers.
- A proven history of flexibility and willingness to help with a variety of tasks and meeting deadlines.
- IT systems know-how, with Intermediate to Advanced skills in accounting software, 365 Office Suite and Excel. Preferred previous experience with hotel financial and accounting systems and software such as Protel, Ferret, and Accredo.
